THIS BIBLE IS NOW SOLD.  A British soldier, William Naylor Stead, born in York, in 1855,  marrying a woman, Louisa Sumsion, who I believe was born in Darjeeling in 1868, getting married in 1884 in Aden. This is the Family Bible Of William and Louisa.  The Bible passed it seems to their daughter Annie Louisa Stead, who married T H Hubble.  It records William and Louisa's children and those of Annie and TH Hubble.  But best of all there are two lovely photos in the photo frames at the back.  The first is a small baby.  The second is of an army sergeant seated next to standing woman with threee children.  It is not clear who these two adults are, but they are in the first two slots in the Bible.   They are slightly larger than the usual cartes de visite, being about 6 inches by 4 inches.  The Bible itself is unusual in England as it is an American publication, of 1882.  The Bible is in good condition. It is very large and heavy.  It measures 13 inches by 11 inches and is over 4 inches thick.  All the pagers are there and the superb moulded cover is intact.  One of the brass clasps is missing.
