The book is mainly the notebook of Abraham Shaw. It has several elements. There are pages of complicated arithmetical tables, written out nby hand to enable ready reckoning in the pre-calculator age. Some of them are quite complicated. Then there are pages of accounts for his merchants business. Some of the pages are dedicated to individual customers, giving their address sometimes. and what they bought, and what they owed. If you know Sheffield surnames there are many familiar names here. Others are lists of business arrangements. There are also pages with odd notes. And there a few pages with family birsths etc.. It is a small book, 7 inches high by 5 inches wide and one inch thick. The binding is all in place and it has the feel of an old vellum bound book. On the cover are various manuscript entries, including he name Edward Genever. It is a little treasure to the person who is interested in this family.
