Decorative spine Beautiful copper plate hand-written inscription to Elizabeth Roper, dated February 1852 Given by Mrs Pighills of Apperley Bridge with two verse poem written below. Birth details of the children of Thomas and Elizabeth Roper. Holy Bible bound in black tooled patterned leather. Printed in 1837 by George Eyre and Andrew Spottiswoode - printers to the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty. For the British and Foreign Bible Society. Marbled edges to pages. Overall condition is very good for a bible of this age. Slight wear to edges of cover; some age-foxing here and there; grey endpapers have slight marks; a nice tight copy. The original owner, Thomas Roper, has hand-written his date of birth (February 7th 1815) and his wife Elizabeth's (September 10th 1819) on the front blank endpaper. He has also listed the birth dates of their four children - Ruth, Alice, Elijah, and Everett William.
