A beautiful old bible with two pages of family register, for the family of Arthur and Mary Hills. But the really interesting part is the two fly-leaf pages which contain some old family history research. It is not possible to date when the the family history tables were hand-written into the bible, but they record the families of Osborne Hills of the City of London, and a later family of High Beach, Essex, and Magnus Brash, a marine captain who died in 1785. Magnus' son was a sea captain, and his grandson was married to Mary Jane Coulthard West, from Deal, I think. These people connect to the register entries. The bible was published in 1885, for SPCK, Oxford. It measures about 12 inches, by 10 by 4. It has gilt edged pages, and blue marker ribbons. I paid a bit more than usual for this bible (not in competitive bidding) and for that reason the price is higher than usual. But it is in magnificent condition, and well worth it if it is your family.
